Weeds

Weeds  are one of the main causes of yield losses in cereal crops. Crop growth and ultimately, yield, is driven by green leaf area. Weeds compete with the crop for light, water and nutrients, all of which can reduce the crop’s ability to amass green leaf area. In barley, for example, ear number is a key determinant of yield and weed competition can reduce the shoot number especially during early tillering.
